Uncle Sam protecting his property against the encroachments of his cousin John

Uncle Sam protecting his property against the encroachments of his cousin John
Complete Explanation: Northern fears of European intervention in the Civil War on behalf of the South are manifest here. Uncle Sam, in the form of a bearded Union soldier (closely resembling Abraham Lincoln), unceremoniously routs John Bull from a fenced garden where the latter has been poaching. Grabbing him by the scruff of the neck, Sam warns, "John, You lost your Non-interfering Principle. I'll lay it on your back again." The American wields a large stick "Principle of Non Enterference." John Bull has a handful of cotton plants, more of which appear at right, and wears "Armstrong's Patent" cannon on his legs. (The term refers to a type of English-made gun used by the Confederates.) The artist has hidden several Negro faces in his drawings of cotton plants here. A cock with the head of French leader Napoleon III watches from his perch on the fence at left. At right stands a large scarecrow from whose arms hang the lifeless bodies of Confederate general P. G. T. Beauregard and Confederate president Jefferson Davis. A plaque on the scarecrow reads, "All Persons Tresspassing These Premisses, will be punished according to Law." (click image for source)

POETICAL WORKS: JAMES RUSSELL LOWELL (1891)

This blog is inspired by my grandfather's books from the 19th century. Within these books, are glimpses of a "fire in the spirit" that is all but lost in America today. The mettle/determination of a different era blazes throughout. The grotesque misinformation and disinformation that deluge our sources of knowledge today (the propaganda runs dark & deep), drove me to these 19th century texts. I was searching, desperately, for some unadulterated truths. I do think I found a few precious gems. Below, a few poems and excerpts from poems. The tragedies and injustices we witness today occurred in the past. The only difference is, today, few see. In the early days of the Republic, a disciplined and educated populace actively resisted despotism. This defiance to old world tyranny is readily identifiable in these poems. Dig the title, "crowned bloodsuckers". Do we see anything, even remotely, resembling such a ferocity of spirit today?
To John G. Palfrey ( LINK ) There are who triumph in a losing cause, Who can put on defeat, as 't were a wreath Unwithering in the adverse popular breath, Safe from the blasting demagogue's applause; 'Tis they who stand for freedom and God's laws. And so stands Palfrey now, as Marvell Stood, Loyal to Truth dethroned, nor could be wooed To trust the playful tiger's velvet paws: And if the second Charles brought in Decay Of ancient virtue, if it well might wring Souls that had broadened 'neath a noble day, To see a losel, marketable king Fearfully watering with his realm's best blood Cromwell's quenched bolts, that erst had cracked and flamed, Scaring, through all their depths of courtier mud, EUROPE"S CROWNED BLOODSUCKERS,___ how more ashamed Ought we to be, who see Corruptions flood Still rise o'er last years mark, to mine away Our brazen idol's feet of treacherous clay!
SUGGESTED BY THE GRAVES OF TWO ENGLISH SOLDIERS ON CONCORD BATTLE-GROUND. These men were brave enough, and true To the hired soldier's bull-dog creed; What brought them here they never knew, They fought as suits the English breed: They came three thousand miles, and died, To keep the PAST upon it's throne; Unheard, beyond the ocean tide, Their English mother made her moan.
Stanzas on Freedom MEN! whose boast it is that ye Come of fathers brave and free, if there breath on earth a slave,Are ye truly free and brave? If ye do not feel the chain,When it works a brother's pain,Are ye not base slaves indeed,Slaves unworthy to be freed? They are slaves who fear to speak For the fallen and the weak; They are slaves who will not choose Hatred, scoffing, and abuse,Rather than in silence shrink From the truth they needs must think; They are slaves who dare not be In the right with two or three.

The link ABOVE contains one of the Reverend Martin Luther King's most profound but most overlooked speeches. This speech, in all probability, got him assassinated. In it he deviated from civil rights to anti-war. This anti-war stanch upset the Military Industrial Complex.

The Poetry of Revolt

The Poetry of Revolt: "Revolt"

It is especially inspiring to remember that what is happening is the culmination of years of work by activists from a spectrum of pro-democracy movements, human rights groups, labor unions, and civil society organizations. In 2004, when Kefaya began their first public demonstrations, the protesters were usually outnumbered 30 to one by Central Security Forces. Now the number has reversed—and multiplied.
No less astonishing is the poetry of this moment. I don’t mean “poetry” as a metaphor, but the actual poetry that has played a prominent role in the outset of the events. The slogans the protesters are chanting are couplets—and they are as loud as they are sharp. The diwan of this revolt began to be written as soon as Ben Ali fled Tunis, in pithy lines like "Yâ Mubârak! Yâ Mubârak! Is-Sa‘ûdiyya fi-ntizârak!," ("Mubarak, O Mabarak, Saudi Arabia awaits!"). In the streets themselves, there are scores of other verses, ranging from the caustic "Shurtat Masr, yâ shurtat Masr, intû ba’aytû kilâb al-’asr" ("Egypt's Police, Egypt's Police, You've become nothing but Palace dogs"), to the defiant "Idrab idrab yâ Habîb, mahma tadrab mish hansîb!" (Hit us, beat us, O Habib [al-Adly, now-former Minister of the Interior], hit all you want—we're not going to leave!). This last couplet is particularly clever, since it plays on the old Egyptian colloquial saying, "Darb al-habib zayy akl al-zabib" (The beloved's fist is as sweet as raisins). This poetry is not an ornament to the uprising—it is its soundtrack and also composes a significant part of the action itself

The Angry Arab News Service/وكالة أنباء العربي الغاضب: Comrade Hossam: live from Cairo: "Comrade Hossam: live from Cairo"
Alternative perspective that resonates some truth

Comrade Hossam: live from Cairo
Comrade Hossam is somebody I trust and admire: he is central in the protests in Cairo (and is a fine journalists too). Here is a sequence of his tweets:

3arabawy Hossam عمو حسام
"There r tens of thousands continuing the protests day and night in Tahrir Sq. Yesterday we almost stormed the Interior Ministry.
The police has vanished from the streets. They r barricaded inside their Interior Ministry, stationing snipers on buildings, shooting at us.
Live ammunition was used yesterday against us in Mohamed Mahmoud Street. I saw at least one person dead.
I'm ok, I have sustained injuries like everyone else from BB bullets and rubber bullets. But my family and I are fine.
IT IS NOT TRUE WHAT MSM IS BROADCASTING ABOUT PROTESTERS CALLING ON BARADIE TO LEAD TRANSITIONAL GOVT!
My neighborhood Nasr City, my city Cairo and in all Egyptian towns, popular committees r being formed by citizens to provide security.
Barricades r up, cars r checked by the shabab. Saboteurs r beaten up immediately on the spot.
The army in Tahrir r useless pieces of shit. They r not "protecting" the demonstrators as they were claiming.
The shootings around Lazoughli and the snipers firing at protesters yesterday happened as the army sat and watch.
WE DO NOT WANT THE ARMY! THE ARMY HAS BEEN RULING SINCE 1952. THEY R NOT NEUTRAL PLAYERS.
The curfew the army imposed is meaningless. We break it every night by continuing our protests in Tahrir.
MB activists were denounced by protesters around Lazoughli yesterday when they tried to stop people from marching on interior ministry
It is not true what some MSM outlets r broadcasting about the Muslim Brotherhood and the 6th of April leading the protests. It's complete BS
The protests have spontaneous leaders in most of the occasions. We won't let this upririsng to be hijacked by anybody.
Suez workers in several factories r on strike, calling for the overthrowal of Mubarak.
Situation in Suez is catastrophic in terms of deaths and injuries. The police fought the people in the same way Israelis fight Palestinians
There r chants against Mubarak always, accusing him of being a traitor, a client to the US and Israel.
There is no love whatsoever the protesters hold towards the US govt and Obama. They r hypocrites.
The Popular Committees hold the seeds for what direct democracy could look like in the future. We need to focus on them instead of BARADIE!
Demonstrations continue in all Egyptian cities. People do not want Omar Suleiman. People want to see Mubarak on trial.
State Security Police Stations in Daqahliya, Kafr El-Sheikh, Rafah, Damanhour, and in many other places have been torched down by protesters
Pigs at Nasr City Police Stations 1 & 2 have barricaded themselves inside the stations, shooting live ammunition at proteters from inside.
I attended the protests in Nasr City yesterday b4 heading to Tahrir, and the police used live ammunition on protesters.
We need more protests abroad in front of Egyptian embassies. Pressure your govts to cut all sort of relations with the Mubarak regime.
I can't login to facebook or gmail from where I am. So anyone who is in touch with my sister Salma, tell her I and mom r doing well.
Gotta leave now and head back to the protests. Down with Mubarak. Down with Obama the hypocrite. Long live the Egyptian revolution."

PS I always teased Hossam and told him: when are you finally going to overthrow Mubarak? Well, he is finally doing it, along with the brave Egyptian people.

Egypt protests draw mixed reaction in region - CNN.com: "Egypt protests draw mixed reaction in region"

The secret policeman Suleiman will do the bidding of poofs like Barack and all the boys on the Potomac. Billions of US tax dollars that have gone to Egypt's police state are at stake.
Look for heavy handed crack down on Egyptian protesters, alas.
Actually, I hope I am wrong on this prognosis. Hopefully, cooler heads will prevail. However, since when have cooler heads prevailed in this part of the world???
Fact is, high tech weapons of control exist. They are top secret. They have been designed for just this type of scenario that now unfolds in Egypt.
Time will tell.

Lebanon should reject Hariri tribunal - Arab News: "Lebanon should reject Hariri tribunal"
ArabNews:
"... Disunity is Lebanon’s greatest Achilles heel, which is now being exacerbated by the UN-backed Special Tribunal for Lebanon, which is bent on opening-up old wounds with the potential to thrust the country into civil war.
There is no doubt that Lebanon’s former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri was a great man, who worked hard to rebuild his nation and bring his people together. His reconstruction of Downtown Beirut is a testament to that. His killing in 2005 was a terrible crime ..but allowing a foreign court to regurgitate that tragedy six years with potentially devastating consequences serves no purpose at all for Lebanon’s stability and economic future.
It does, however, benefit the US and Israel which are ready to cheer on the demonization of their enemy Hezbollah, which is the only entity blocking those powers from total domination over Israel’s tiny neighbor and giving them pause for thought to pursue their ambitions to bomb Iran’s nuclear sites

The Waldensians - Belief Systems Shattered... - Hiding Magdalene Lineage - Does This Affect You?: "Have you ever heard of the Waldensians?"

Yet you have probably never even heard of them!! Why not?

One Roman Catholic author, Rainier Sacho, wrote:

"There is no sect so dangerous as the Leonists (another name for Waldensians because they were from the Lyons section of France) for three reasons:

1. it is the most ancient; some say it is as old as Sylvester, others say it is as old as the apostles themselves

2. it is very generally disseminated; there is no country where it has not gained some footing

3. while other sects are profane and blasphemous, this retains the utmost show of piety; they live justly before men and believe nothing concerning God which is not good"

Seymour Hersh unleashed | FP Passport Is General Stanley McChrystal Opus Dei?

Seymour Hersh unleashed FP Passport: "Seymour Hersh unleashed"

He then alleged that Gen. Stanley McChrystal, who headed JSOC before briefly becoming the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, and his successor, Vice Adm. William McRaven, as well as many within JSOC, "are all members of, or at least supporters of, Knights of Malta."

Hersh may have been referring to the Sovereign Order of Malta, a Roman Catholic organization commited to "defence of the Faith and assistance to the poor and the suffering," according to its website.

"Many of them are members of Opus Dei," Hersh continued. "They do see what they're doing -- and this is not an atypical attitude among some military -- it's a crusade, literally. They see themselves as the protectors of the Christians. They're protecting them from the Muslims [as in] the 13th century. And this is their function."

"They have little insignias, these coins they pass among each other, which are crusader coins," he continued. "They have insignia that reflect the whole notion that this is a culture war. … Right now, there’s a tremendous, tremendous amount of anti-Muslim feeling in the military community.”"

Strange, the word origin for cracker refers to Scots Irish from hilly billy Appalachia. Yipes!

From Wiki pedia....
Historically the word suggested poor, white rural Americans with little formal education. Historians point out the term originally referred to the strong Scots-Irish of the back country (as opposed to the English of the seacoast). Thus a sociologist reported in 1913: "As the plantations expanded these freed men (formerly bond servants) were pushed further and further back upon the more and more sterile soil. They became 'pinelanders', 'corn-crackers', or 'crackers'."
Dandy Lord Matthews fancies himself an Englishman with title no doubt.

The 'new' rhetoric of Islamophobia - Opinion - Al Jazeera English

The 'new' rhetoric of Islamophobia - Opinion - Al Jazeera English: "The 'new' rhetoric of Islamophobia"
New York City's former mayor, Ed Koch, has taken time off from his new career as a film critic to offer a valentine to Rep. Peter King (R-NY), the new chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, for scheduling hearings on the dangers posed by Muslim Americans.

Koch's support for King is not surprising. Koch has always been open about his contempt for Arabs and Muslims and his belief that a war of civilisations is now in progress between Muslims and everyone else. He recently wrote:

For me, the question is this: will the secular Western civilisation shared by America and Europe, which allows us to enjoy life and its creature comforts, still be standing at the end of that war? Or will radical Islam, with an aggressive culture that treasures martyrdom and death over life, prevail.... [italics mine]

For years, Koch, King and others who share their anti-Muslim views hid behind that word: "radical". They said that they have no problem with Muslims as people or Islam as a religion. It is only "radical Islam" or "Islamists" that they can't abide.

Pro Libertate: From Terrorist Bagman to Homeland Security Overlord: The Curious Career of Peter King

Pro Libertate: From Terrorist Bagman to Homeland Security Overlord: The Curious Career of Peter King: "From Terrorist Bagman to Homeland Security Overlord: The Curious Career of Peter King"
In the person of Congressman Peter King (R-New York), the incoming chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, the abstraction called "hypocrisy" has acquired tangible human form. After spending decades canvassing his fellow Irish-American Catholics to raise money for terrorists in Northern Ireland, King has promised to conduct a wide-ranging investigation of American Muslim congregations and cultural organizations in search of people providing "material support" for Islamic terrorism.

King is certainly a media darling here in the New York metropolitan area!

Ever since 911, King has played a major role in the stirring up of anti Muslim sentiment via the tee vee. His leadership in the powerful Irish Catholic community assures a large, disciplined, vigorous and most important, a "hyper" well organized campaign against the Muslim world. The teevee assists King in these efforts.
I wished the author of this Pro Libertate piece consulted with me on this writing. While most all of it I agree with, he left off some rather provocative details that make this story even more bizarre and complex. My primary discomfort comes from his ignoring New York's long standing ethnic interelations between the huge and powerful Irish Catholic community, which King is obviously an intrinsic part of and that communities deep and abiding alliance with New York's Jewish community. I will only touch on one element , I assure you there are many others. My own childhood within this New York Irish Catholic community witnessed a passionate hatred of all things British. One instance of this intense hatred of the British was manifest by a commonality of hatred of the British with the arch Zionists in the New York metropolitan area. Menachem Begin, who at that time, epitomised a growing Zionist ethnic identity(Begin, himself,a media darling of New York's Jewish community) , likewise, despised the British. (It was Begin who was involved in the infamous King David Hotel bombing) Begin was a hero amongst the IRA supporters in my neighborhood. For me, this was always a Janus faced interrelationship. How was it that freedom loving Irish Catholic Republicanism could allign with the Zionist, Begin? Begin, who was such a beastial racist hater of the Palestinians. The disconnect left me with a decidedly evil aftertaste. It seriously deligitimised the genuine altruistic nature of Irish Republicanism.
Peter King is just a shining example of this extraordinary contradiction.

Bottom line: we have IRA terrorist bombers, we have Zionist terrorist bombers. Both targeting British interests. The Brits desparate to take the heat off themselves cut a deal with the IRA and Zionists. [***The deal? How about a deal where we(Anglo-American, Jewish Zionists & IRA) all go to the Middle east and bomb Muzzies? Yeaaaah baby, we bomb muzzies and share the war bootie.***] Brackets indicate my conjecture as to what is happening
Kudos to this Pro Libertate author.
